• You have had a fire brigade inspection or fire risk assessment and have been told you need to install or replace your fire extinguishers.
    • You’ve had fire extinguishers installed but need these commissioned by a competent person.
    • You’ve had fire extinguishers installed and commissioned but need to carry out your annual servicing by a competent person.
    • You have used your fire extinguishers and need them refilling or replacing.

WFP partnering experts install, commission and service fire extinguishers for a variety of businesses. The type and number of fire extinguishers you will need will vary depending on the nature and size of your commercial premises. Our specialists will examine your property during your site survey and advise what needs to be implemented to stay legally compliant and compatible with best practice guidelines.

    • Having a professional survey carried out by a competent person with knowledge of fire safety legislation.
    • Installing a minimum of two ‘Class A’ extinguishers on each storey of your building.
    • Installing the correct type of fire extinguishers for your commercial property.
    • Having these extinguishers installed and commissioned by a professional.
    • Carrying out annual servicing/maintenance of your fire extinguishers, and have discharge testing when necessary.
    • Training designated staff members (e.g. fire marshals) on how to use the extinguishers in an event of a fire.
    • Having your ‘responsible person’ carry out monthly visual inspections, e.g. to ensure they are not damaged, have any missing parts, and have the pressure gauge within the correct range.

There are five classes of fire (A, B, C, D and F) depending on the materials which have been set alight.

The fire extinguishers fitted within your building will be specific to the class of fire it’s required to tackle. There are five common types: foam, water, carbon dioxide (CO2), powder, and wet chemical.

Your business will require a minimum number of extinguishers, however the standard legal requirement is two per floor with a combined rating of at least 26A, unless the upper floor area is very small (i.e. below 100m²) and in single occupancy (in which case only a minimum rating of 13A is required on the upper floor).

It’s not only important to make sure you’ve got the correct number and type of fire extinguishers, but that they are strategically located for use in the event of a fire. They must be visible and easily accessible, but not in an area where they may be knocked or become an obstruction. One of our experts will be able to look at your building and know what you need and where.
