Design

Fire alarm systems can be designed by WFP, conforming to all of the British Standards pertaining to the product or service, using open protocol systems in all cases.

Our design capability is one the key reasons our customers use us. This is not just backed up with years of experience. Each one of our designers is FIA* accredited and we, as a business, are proud to have the BSI** kitemark of approval, which underlines our commitment to getting it right.

The importance of designing your fire alarm system correctly cannot be overstated. Some aspects that need to be taken into consideration are:

  • Risk Assessment
  • Category Level
  • Variations as agreed by all parties
  • False alarm reductions built-in
  • Explanation of how the system is to operate
  • Drawings and specifications to be completed
  • Interested parties: insurance, local authority
  • Emergency lighting
  • System categories/classifications
  • Disabilities Discrimination Act
  • British Standards, eg BS5839, BS5266, BS5588, BS7273

We are also mindful that some organisations already have their own codes to take into consideration when making their decisions, such as the HTM 82 FIRECODE systems used in hospitals.
