Health and Safety legislation requires that all buildings in the commercial and HMO (houses of multiple occupation) sector have emergency escape lighting installed.

Emergency Lighting systems should clearly illuminate essential areas such as escape routes and work areas, when the normal lighting systems fail, allowing the occupants of the premises to evacuate the building efficiently, thereby reducing panic and ultimately saving lives.

Non Maintained Emergency Lighting: operates when the normal mains supply fails.
Maintained Emergency Lighting: operates normally and continues to operate when the normal mains supply fails.
