Background

The Mill development is a mix of refurbished and new blocks with underground parking and communal areas, the site has an existing fire detection and alarm system which was used to cover the common areas only.

Why did it need a fire alarm system?

Following storm damage in October 2013 it was discovered that the fire protection of the building was such that a fire outbreak within one demise could affect a number of the flats. At the behest of the local Fire & Rescue Service, a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) was carried out and this dictated that each of the 88 flats needed to be covered with heat detection for early warning of a fire for the premises as a whole and this when CJ Electrical (Ipswich) approached WFP for our expertise in providing solutions of sites with Radio Detection.

The key to this project was speed and accuracy with the minimum disruption, all things that suit a well-planned radio installation down to the ground. Our design was carried out within days of being asked to provide a solution, once ordered the equipment was onsite within 10 days and the installation and commissioning was completed within two weeks.
