When sites are new, much is made of the testing and commissioning phase of the development, the consultant and building users get involved and much checking and double checking is done.
The jobs are handed over and the manuals and drawings turn up for the building user to start the task of dealing with the inevitable hiccups;
so the building is now 10 years old;
1. Can you find the manuals?
2. Where did the drawings go, were they lent out to a contractor and never returned, where are the originals?
3. Does the fire risk assessor fully understand the complexities of the fire alarm system and how the building use has changed since the fire alarm was installed?Questions questions
The answer is that the cause and effects don’t get passed to the maintaining fire alarm company and the exact nature of the operation gets lost through staff and building usage changes
